70,000 km on a new aaz engine. Almost from new it would give off whiteish blue smoke on startup. It is not so bad when cold start pulled out. I have always taken off the two shock bolts and pulled out the axles that way.

When you removed the lines you may have bumped the 12 volt wire that powers the solenoid on the injection pump. Use a test light to make sure when cranking over you have 12 volts at the wire, and the wire is firmly on the injection pump.

Only vw power steering.
