Re: Diesel Injection Pump '85 1.6L VW, suddenly not pumping
first off, I'd repost your cry for help as its own thread; more people likely to see it there and help you with it. You can, of course, take the pump apart and see if the heads clogged, or - as with mine - the distributor piston is broken. Hard to know what to advise unless I know what's been done t...

Re: Real MPG? How to improve gas mileage... ?
You have hit upon a very timely subject; worthy of everyone's notice. It is time to get all of our efficiency tweaks together. I am, unfortunately, not astute in this area, but am willing to help you search - in what spare time I have. As mentioned, tire pressure is crucial, as is the manner in whic...

Re: Safe diesel veg oil mix?
I've just reinstalled my vacuum gauge between my IP and my fuel filter. I'm concerned about keeping the IP healthy; I know that keeping the vacuum low will help with this. Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanx for the useful reply
To control viscousity, at this time of year in Seattle, I've been usually adding about 20% RUG (gasoline) to the usual WVO. Last night, Omar sent me a file on making injection line heaters, which he uses due to running a dual fuel system. He says that he sometimes forgets to switch back over to dies...

Re: Old guy Old Rabbit---both Happy.
Good Morning Hagar - I know you've experience with many different diesel engines. I'm wondering what you'd recommend for a Geo Metro refit. Since giving up my Alfa Romeo - of many years acquaintence - I'm thinking about getting another convertible, and thought a Geo would be the thing, esp. with a d...

Re: Safe diesel veg oil mix?
You mentioned clogging the fuel filter. My straight veggie 2-tank friend Omar (see his posts) gave me some airplane fuel line, which is about 1/4" ID tubing, which I wrapped around a fuel filter, put compression fitting on each end and attached with hoses into the air-heater circuit that warms ...

Re: Diesel Injection Pump '85 1.6L VW, suddenly not pumping
Got the pump back, about a week after last post. They'd replaced all of the bushings. They said the drive shaft bushing was probably the "primary cause" of the surging I was experiencing. In the future - like when I rebuild my other pump - I'll be more thorough and assess these areas with a...

Re: Oil pressure light flashing/ buzzing, senders new; press
After looking at Vince's "How to", I saw that the sender on the oil filter flange was wrong, replaced it a correct one, which I tested before purchasing to make it sure it was "normally open", and so far - no buzzer and no flashing light; "hurrah"! Thanx so much for the...

Re: Oil pressure light flashing/ buzzing, senders new; press
So now, after looking at Vince's troubleshooting guide, I saw right-away - given the circuit checks that I mentioned on my last post, that the high-pressure sender on the oil-filter was not supposed to have a closed circuit, but an open one. I checked out both of the sensors my local auto parts stor...

Re: Oil pressure light flashing/ buzzing, senders new; press
Hi Fatty, thanx for the reply. I've checked the conduction of the wires from the sensors to the panel with an Ohm-meter - both connections showed low-resistance, both to the back of the instrument panel and to ground, just so I'd know if the connection and wire were good. I'm only getting the buzzin...

Oil pressure light flashing/ buzzing, senders new; pressure?
I've seen posts about this, in the past, but now that I'm having this problem, I can't seem to find them.
The pressure looks good; I'd like to keep the idiot light & buzzer; anyone find particular wiring problems related to this issue?

Re: Rebuild Injection Pump
About "prothe": I have done business with him on a couple of occasions, for parts only, and was displeased with the service although the prices were quite good. I ordered a rebuild kit which took over 4 weeks to be delivered, then I ordered some parts which also took a long time to arrive ...

Professional intervention time
Assuming I've done everything "by the book", with no "joy" (positive outcome), I've enlisted the aid of "professionals". I've taken the pump to the local Bosch rep./fuel-injection specialist, with the technician's foreknowledge of the work I've done (new supply pump, ne...

Hillbilly tuning vs dial gauge
The "10" I had mentioned was from a dial gauge reading; this is where the timing was at, after setting to TDC (static timing). What I meant was, that the engine ran better than when I fine-tuned the pump using the dial-gauge and set the pump so that the dial setting was about 95 (which is ...

Hillbilly tuning time?
I rechecked the throttle connections today, then started the engine. Wouldn't idle well so I retimed it and tried starting it up - found that I'd left the plug out of the end, so put that back - still not luck, even after bleeding. The thing will idle, there's fuel, but it's running worse after the ...
