Re: Fuel line failures

Thanks man! I read through the how-to in detail yesterday and have a pretty good feeling about doing the reseal. I don't think I'm going to tackle the LDA this time around... It's been dry as a bone so I'm fairly certian the leak is in the lower half. Definitely doing the Vaseline trick after readin...

Re: Fuel line failures

Well yesterday I tore at the fuel lines running to and from the tank to the engine bay, got thoes replaced and did a little tidy work under the van as well. I've removed the electric pump to see if the IP will work but after reading around here I'd have to agree with Quantum, it's probably there to ...

Re: Fuel line failures

The electric one has been there all along; the PO said it was to boost the pressure from the tank; I'm not sure if it's a common thing on the van... Can't seem to find any literature on it so I'm thinking it's not. My IP will pull fuel; the veg tank doesn't have a pump on it and it feeds fine, but i...

Fuel line failures

Ok so interesting problems that may not be related... Lately I've been noticing fuel accumulating under my IP; on the bracket. It looks like it could be from the cold start or from the front end of the pump. It hasn't been bad and I've been trying to track it down. Today however I think my electric ...

Re: exhaust manifold gasket, which way to install?

That's what I wound up doing. Seems to be doing fine, but I was rather puzzled as to why they would be that way...

Re: Oil in my air intake- bad breather vent?

It's got a baffle in there, guess this is something I'll live with and clean out every once and a while.

I suspect a bad head gasket too so maybe that has something to so with it.

Re: head gasket

in regards to pulling the exhaust manifold or not; I found it much easier to install the head with it removed. I'ts easy to pull the head with it on but sliding it in at an angle I found it nice to have the room, however it is a huge pain to get the top front bolt on...

Re: Oil In Coolant

I'll try torquing while warm, and I just picked up a compression tester on ebay for $18 so I'll check there too before any drastic moves.

Re: Oil In Coolant

Quantum-man those are some encouraging words! I guess I'll do my flush sooner then planned and try torquing the bolts a bit more. I'm skeptical that it's residual scum in the system simply becasue it appeared so suddenly. I've been keeping a close eye on my coolant tank to see if there were any othe...

Re: Oil in my air intake- bad breather vent?

I didn't think an 85 had a PCV valve... Could I remove the oil cap on the cam cover to check? what makes you think this could be an issue?

I know I took a gamble with the head bolts but people on here were 50/50 if it was a good idea or not.
turns out to be not... well live and learn.

Re: Oil in my air intake- bad breather vent?

Well besides the dark coolant, I've also been having white puffs of smoke when I open the throttle.

I did a test this morning of warming up the engine for 30sec, then opened the coolant tank. It had some pressure built up as well as a grey foam in the coolant...

Re: Oil In Coolant

So I think we are in the same boat, but I may be a step ahead of you... I had an issue with re-torquing my headbolts becasue they had sat for several months after a rebuild. I decided to replace them with new bolts, but not replace the gasket (i figured it was new and the bolts hadn't been torqued)....

Re: Oil in my air intake- bad breather vent?

Well somewhat of a relief to hear that, but should I be cleaning it out on a regular basis?

I think the liquid I'm seeing is coolant from a blown head gasket... last thing I want to find right now...

Re: Newbie to the Van!

Well the timing was dead on so I'm doubting the sprocket is loose. I'm hoping it just needs some more advancement on the timing. If it's not that then I'm kind of puzzled as to what would cause the rough acceleration and white smoke... I think I may drive it to work tomorrow (one hr freeway drive) t...
