I have been getting electrial probs on my 1985 transporter with a golf mark 2 engine since driving into the atlantic last year (long story) nearly cured all the resulting mess since but for my battery slowly discharging while engine is switched off, well not that slowly actually!!
any ideas on what i should do and how to go about it well appreciated. i have a multi meter but don't really know how to use it yet.....
how should i check to find voltage leak or short circuit????????????

first thing I'd do is take the neg terminal off the batt. and connect a test light or yhe continuity checker of your meter between it and the neg. post. Then I'd remove every fuse, one at a time until the light went out or your continuity checker went off. Then you'll know which cicuit is giving problems. Then it's just a matter of tracing the wiring using your Bentley manual.
