'79 Rabbit - Where's the glow plug relay?
I just picked up a '79 rabbit and the glow plug system has been hacked a bit. Where's the stock glow plug relay supposed to be located?
Re: '79 Rabbit - Where's the glow plug relay?
It is on the fuse panel, don't ask me witch one though. I know it makes an audible click when engaged and disengaged.

Hey Andrew, Is this your first Rabbit?
I don't see you post much about them.
The glow plug relay is on a seperate socket,.. it's usually snapped onto the top of the fuse box,.. big wires.

Re: '79 Rabbit - Where's the glow plug relay?
This is the first rabbit that I have owned personally, but my father had three of them when I was in High School. That was quite a few years ago.
This one is currently inop and has been for the last sixteen years! Someone has pulled all but one of the relays from the relay panel. Does anyone have a picture/description/diagram of the relay panel and what relays are where? Bentley is on order but not here yet.

Look where the big fat wires go to, that's likely the glow plug relay socket. The glow plug relay and maybe another relay will have wires as fat as the glow plug wiring. The wires are about the size diameter of a pencil.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

Check pin 19 on the blue plug (on the back of the fusebox),
it's for the heater fan.
The fusebox can't handle it, that corner of the plug ends up melted.
I relay heater fan on high, to bypass the fusebox.
Looks like load reduction relay (40 amp) is second from left
Wiper is M
emergency flasher N
Seat belt interlock on top,.. bypass that to get power to the pump.
The body must be in good shape,.. with all the other drawbacks, ha.

Re: '79 Rabbit - Where's the glow plug relay?
Thanks for the relay info.
Body is in great shape. Almost entirely straight (little scrape on driver's side rear wheel well). No rust. Original paint actually shines up well. Interior is in good shape as well aside from the dash. 95,000 miles. Has a 1.6 n/a (not running) and a 5-speed FF trans. I picked it up for $100 so it has to have a few things wrong with it.
