SAGA : Abbotsford vixen I did offer to help him with that BMW diesel Turbo.. BUT someone else got hold of that damaged cylinder-head.

I am trying to phone him today at his winery.

hagar.

PS : Diesels do not come better than BMW that I know of. (very expensive).

Good Morning Hagar - I know you've experience with many different diesel engines. I'm wondering what you'd recommend for a Geo Metro refit. Since giving up my Alfa Romeo - of many years acquaintence - I'm thinking about getting another convertible, and thought a Geo would be the thing, esp. with a diesel in it. I don't know what's possible, but when I'm finished with school in October, I'd like to take on a new automotive project.
I've just finished rebuilding my '85 Golf engine, transmission and injection pump - many thanx to this forum, and have a 1.5L and a 1.6L sitting under the woodpile (that my wife doesn't know about).
I doubt I have the expertise to convert a 3 cylinder gasoline engine to diesel (don't know if anyone can) but I like the idea of having an efficient convertible, but don't like the Cabriolet styling - not graceful enough!
What do you think might fit under a Metro hood well; anyone ever build a 2 or 3 cylinder turbo diesel?

You won't be able to convert your 3 cyl gas engine to a diesel without serious machine work and custom parts. So, you should look elsewhere. You would have to search for what vehicles may have had a small diesel engine in them and see if you can use one of those. Maybe in Europe there's 3 cylinder diesels to make the swap easier, but they likely aren't available in the US market. The VW diesel may fit in there, but really, you'll have to start taking measurements to see what you're in for and look at just about everything to see if it's really feasible or not. Good luck, it's car crafting at it's finest!

Since the Geo Metro is a Suzuki Swift I wonder if any of the VW to Suzuki conversion adapters for the Suzuki Samurai would bolt up to the Metro transmission. I have no idea if they are even remotely similar. If so a VW diesel engine in a Metro might be a nice swap. Since the VW engine is longer, you may not have enough room to fit it in there but it might be interesting to check into

I know of someone who put a Robin Subaru 1 cylinder diesel engine into his Metro. He got some ridiculous amount of mileage with it, it was insane. Electric start and all. I'll see if I can dig up the info on it later tonight, had videos of it running and everything.

I was watching top gear one day and Hammond was complaing about his gutless 3 cyl. diesel he was driving...Think it was a VW. I remember him saying it got 70 or so miles per gallon.
I forget the name of the care though, definetely not available in the states.

BUT I do like diesels. there are some 3 cylinder air-cooled made by "Deutz" I think.

SAGA : why do I not write more often , despite Requests ? simple , I do not want to look like a real A,hole occupying top line.

I just found out that my favorite VW the "Kubelwagen" had a Diesel version (only prototypes were made) .
