I just found out that my favorite VW the "Kubelwagen" had a Diesel version (only prototypes were made) .

hagar.
hagar, were those Kubelwagen diesel prototypes the intended recipients for the opposed 4-cylinder diesel engines that VW had Porsche make? (Certainly those engines never made it to full production status). You are an amazing source of knowledge. Thank you.

It has remained for Subaru to be the first with serious civilian market opposed 4 cyl diesel engines, although they're only available in Europe, so far.

SAGA : vwtyp133 your best bet is google "kubelwagen".

All GI"s liked the "JEEP" like hagar likes the VW Rabbit diesels. Eropa was flooded with Jeep's after war # 2 But all the kubel;s was left in the east or Africa

Agreed...I have been laughing at "them" for quite some time now, especially the price they want for a whopping 42 MPG new model

I just picked up a TD motor for my Caddy and cant wait to get it in and play with hagars ECO mods. Must wait for Summer since I dont have a garage and the muddy driveway aint gonna cut it.

SAGA : ah shucks the blue Van safari ended in February 2011 , (they sold the wagon) SO ? it is no longer a Diesel trip.

I am disappointed I was hoping the trip would prove the worth of a diesel. , I know that these forums would assist in keeping that diesel humming along I can guarantee if hagar was driving it would make the trip. . And any Oldie in this forum could do the same.

The safari sounded like all diesel lovers dream trip , well it was not to be .. darn it.

My writing is confused ? yes due to my illness. I am a few miles from the end. (Hart failure)

Hagar:

I still have to finish some wiring on my Turbo Diesel implant into my 1971 VW Camper. However, my goal is to get 3,000 miles on it by the end of the year, so I'll keep you posted with pictures and mileage updates.

Let's see what a 1.6 TD with 270,000+ miles on it can do...

Cheers,
Avocado

SAGA :: This about the Belgian's Safari.. They sold that wagon at the end of February. WHY ?????. I can smell a rat.

I tried very hard to tell him not to use Torque . to use RPM. BUT he was a torque driver. Did that small engine have problems with that one room apartment ? , I say it again ,I am disappointed ,That was the longest VW safari I ever heard of...

avocado is taking a Van 3000 miles , he better make it.. The 1983 1.6L Turbo is a good engine. . the 1.9L turbo ? , I have no experience with those. We have guys in this forum who has.

I never minced word about the BAD wiring in VW vehicles . toooot the horn an engine stops. ????? (the recall )
