Quality Starter?

Post by tripseven »

Is there a particular starter that is better than others for my 1982 1.6 na diesel engine? Mine stopped working and looking to replace.

Thanks,

Clint

I'm assuming that you have the manual trans vehicle. The starters for auto and manual trans cars are significantly different. There are 1.4KW and 1.7KW starters for these motors and direct drive and gear reduction type. I believe I remember the numbers correctly. The 1.4KW should only be used on gas engines and some say the gear reduction are good and some say poor. Most auto parts suppliers that sell rebuilt starters sell starters where only the pieces that were broken were replaced during the rebuild. If you have access to a local business that can rebuild the starter, I'd utilize their services as they know what they're doing and can service the starter effectively. Otherwise, it's probably a guess as to which store sells you the best rebuilt starter.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count
