Re: Eco Resurrection
all good advice given above. there's a good chance this bugger will immediately fire up... but i wouldn't want that. i'd pull the injectors, squirt oil/ATF in there and crank a bunch with the injectors out. this will pressurize the oil system and lubricate the turbo bearing which is now dry as an ol...

Re: 1979 Diesel oil recommendations
and re-reading your post, you said the PO 'adjusted timing'... i read that as 'adjusted timing belt' on my earlier post so you need to find out when the belt was replaced, if it has been. crucial thing to do as 82vdub said.

Re: 1979 Diesel oil recommendations
as a new diesel owner, take the timing belt very seriously as breakage will ruin your cylinder head. you said the PO 'adjusted' it.... red flag because you need to know it has been *replaced* within the previous 60K miles. if you don't know the mileage it was *replaced* at, it is time to replace it....

Re: Re-Ring/Rebuild Project Under way. Pics + Progress
personally, i think your machinist was okay.... you'd still have SOME compression, quite a bit actually, with damage at the bottom of the cylinder. me thinks you more likely have simple valve adjustment problem on #4. go thru and check valve clearance and i think you might find a tight valve on 4. -...

Re: Adjustment
oh yeah, it DOES have that bump/hole so it CAN'T be adjusted!! WTF, eh? must be a crossover parts issue where the plate without the bump is used on another application but the serated part can remain the same. i dunno.

Re: Odd diesel Rabbit starting problems
just fyi... the starter bushing remains in the block when starters are swapped as it is a bushing pushed into the recess the nose of the starter fits in. the last starter i bought had the $2 bushing with it and a tag that said "No warranty issued on this starter without replacing the starter bu...

Re: '91 Jetta new windshield
the young guys at the shop were pretty conversational when they were replacing it... they said they wouldn't do one on their own if they were me for the sole reason of breakage when installing it. it must happen with some frequency.

Re: Adjustment
that particular assembly is a mystery to me. i just don't get what it does!! i understand the serated part as that applies the twist action to the throttle shaft, but the bolted down sliding adjustment has me flummoxed. it probably positions the throttle post the cable attaches to in a particular sp...

Re: Water Pump Output (GPM)
ah. an aircooled converted to diesel? very cool. where'd you mount the radiator? i would run the heaters in parallel, not series. if you can, make a large diameter manifold (1.5" would be great) to feed the heaters, T off of that with 3/4" diameter hose to the heater, and return it to the ...

Re: Water Pump Output (GPM)
the booster pump helped the heat output for the front and middle heaters. tell me more why you are interested in only the middle heater... if anything, the middle heater was always pretty good. it was the front that needed more flow thru it. the underseat heater has a heat control valve. that isn't ...

Re: Water Pump Output (GPM)
yup. i used a Jabsco Centri-Puppy, similar to the PONY series, that was rated for some heat. but it had a conventional seal and it started leaking. i took the pump out, replaced the seal with a Viton one, and now pump 200F veg oil with it no problem.
