Start looking to rent a truck and trailer. Even if you could revive it, you wouldn't make it far.

Bummer. :(

About the WD40 vs ether, the normal starting fluid washes the lubricant off your cylinder walls, WD40 does not. At least that's what I always understood about the difference. I used to use WD40 on my friend's unimog when it had been sitting all winter. Worked like a charm. I feel for you. I have bro...

I did it in two 1/4 turns, and I assume when you mean not to stop, you mean not do an 1/8th, and then rest and then do another 1/8th? I did each 1/4 turn as a full 1/4 turn all at once.

I do have one of the 12 mm engines, ME code.

so what is the retorque schedule? I followed bentley so far, which was torque to 30 and then 44 ft-lbs and then two 1/4 turns. Then Bentley says to warm it up and then give it another 1/4 turn, and then on the ME and MF engines another 1/4 turn after 1000 miles. Is this pretty much what people are d...

What didn't look possible to me, was pulling the water pump without pulling the jackshaft pulley or the whole housing. I'm sure it must be possible, since the Bentley is a pretty decent service manual and it did not say I needed to pull that pullet. But there was one water pump bolt behind that pull...

here's the pulley tool, version 2.0:

the first one had the short piece made out of flat stock and it just bent when I leaned into it.

It always gives me the willies when I see rigs running with a naked timing belt...

not only could you kill the car, you could do some pretty major damage to yourself, too.

Well, i wanted to change out the jackshaft seal, just because. And I was able to do that, finally. And I totally lucked out on the water pump. Obviously mine was changed out already not too long ago. Everything is really clean, all the bolts came out really easily; I didn't break a single one. So I ...

depending on how bad the blow by is, you may want to route that mess into a container under the hood somewhere, and keep a close eye on it. My brother did that with a worn out 77 rabbit gasser, and while it did work, his problem was so bad that it would fill pretty frequently and he once had a small...

intermediate shaft and water pump woes

I'm starting to think it would have been easier to remove the engine before working on it! I have my new head bolted down and I had figured as long as I had it torn apart so far, I would go ahead and replace the jackshaft seal and water pump. As near as I can tell by looking, you can't take the wate...

yeah, no kidding. Many years ago I bought a rebuilt bus engine off of a reliable guy, installed it in a friend's bus and it dropped a valve seat less than a month later. Heads had been rebuilt by a reputable shop, but that was right around the time that the castings on those things were starting to ...

I'm guessing those punch marks are to keep the valve seat from coming loose.
